SEO Company
"When I decided to start an SEO company 14 years ago, there was no such thing as Google. It began with Info Seek and a guy by the name of congressman frost." So I was pulling 90k hits an hour and making about 115 thousand dollars a month with my own sites at my peak. I bought a house in Studio City California and before I knew it word was spreading fast that "Michael could make you a millionaire overnight" (Grief).
In came the offers and I started by helping friends. My best per day rate was 75k for one day and some follow up plus expenses, hotel and airfare to Los Angeles to work in the disk forensics lab where I worked with agents from various federal agencies on a 17 billion dollar civil law suit as an expert consultant. I decided to leave my other companies on autopilot and began helping people build better websites.
The Client Wants A Say In The SEO Process.
Now this is just plain silly but I have to mention it. There is no reason what so ever that a client should ever have a say so in the seo process in any way. You can not have a person who has no SEO experience what so ever calling the shots. I run my SEO campaigns with the clients vision as a guide, but most of the time you can expect to hear no alot if you want spinning lava lamps on your website.
SEO Click Fu
What keyword search is it that you wish to be listed for? Have you stumbled upon the latest SEO tourist trap saying they can give you the keywords of your competitors? Wouldn't it be wonderful to just go to a website and it would tell you everything your competitor is doing? For kicks I went to one of these click fu type websites and entered our domain name. The data it brought back was rediculous. However they are entertaining websites.
SEO Chat Boards
I had a client recently tell me that he got some information from an SEO Expert and it was different than what I had told him. I finally got him to admit he was getting advice from some one on an SEO Chat board. I was just wondering how a reputable seo expert would have time to dispence free information on a chatboard if he had clients or a job at all. My clients keep me busy 24/7 and I definately do NOT have time to debate seo for free with strangers on a chat board. I do not know of any real SEO company who takes them seriously.
Top SEO Experts
So who are my SEO heros? I love Aaron Wall, he is the kewlest guy except for his article on using adult keywords to elevate traffic. I have read Aaron's e-book and though most of the information although outdated to me, it is still a good read. Seth Godin is great for an alternate marketing perspective and an evangelist for non-linear thinking. And finally Matt Cutts from Google who is just too cool.
